Life and Beth by Alan Ayckbourn

At Christmas, Beth Timms’ in-laws, sister-in-law Connie and nephew Martin, and the local vicar are determined that she will not be lonely after the recent death of her husband, Gordon. However, between Connie’s drinking and Martin’s girlfriend, the visit is not very stress-free.

When David, the vicar, prays for Beth to help her in her bereavement, he unintentionally summons Gordon’s ghost to the family home. A workplace safety office in life, and apparently in death, Gordon is determined to stay to help Beth with her future decisions. It soon becomes apparent that Gordon’s return is not an unmixed blessing.
